David Lane is Senior Research
Officer in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of
Cambridge.
He was educated at the Universities of Birmingham and Oxford. He has taught
at the University of Birmingham, where he was Professor of Sociology, and at
Essex University. He has been a visiting professor at the universities of
Cornell, Harvard, Sabanci (Istanbul), Graz, and the Kennan Institute
(Washington DC). He is currently researching problems of transition in
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, with particular emphasis on
globalisation and the role of class in transformation. He is the recipient
of a Leverhulme research award to study the relationship of class to
transformation in Ukraine and Russia. He also is the holder of a British
Academy network award on elites and the European Union.
